A source test for desires, duties and suspiciously well-installed life instructions.

You want the promotion. The house. The relationship. The degree. The move. The business. The respectable life. The secure life. The life somebody somewhere apparently decided would constitute Doing It Right™.

Fine.

But WTF is contributing to that want—and do you still choose to organize part of your finite life around it?

Humans don't develop desires in sterile laboratory conditions. We learn what is desirable from families, cultures, relationships, threats, opportunities, identities, comparison, belonging, markets and the lives available for us to observe.

That doesn't make the want fake.

It does make the fucking thing worth examining.

Whose Fucking Want Is This?™ is a fillable Croc Bite for investigating where a specific want came from, what jobs it may be doing, what it promises, what it actually requires—and whether you want the whole package or merely one ingredient hiding inside it.

This is provenance, not purity. External influence does not invalidate a desire. Intrinsic desire does not automatically make one wise, sustainable or affordable. Several sources can be operating at once.

USE THIS WHEN YOU'RE WONDERING:

  • Do I actually want this—or do I think I should want it?
  • Is this a want, need, strategy, protection mechanism or proof project?
  • When the fuck did I start wanting this?
  • Would I still want it without approval, recognition or applause?
  • Am I buying an entire life package because I want one ingredient?
  • Do I want the outcome—or the ordinary Tuesday that comes with it?
  • What will pursuing and maintaining this actually cost my finite life?
  • Is there another route to the part I genuinely want?
  • Do I have enough information to decide yet?

INSIDE THE CROC BITE

You'll work through:

  1. The Want Sentence — separate what you want from what you expect it to provide, protect you from or prove.
  2. The Want-Origin Timeline — trace when the desire appeared, what was happening around it and how it was reinforced.
  3. The Want-Source Constellation — examine intrinsic, inherited, belonging-based, protective, performative, marketed, adaptive, competitive, relational and experiential influences without forcing the want into one fucking category.
  4. Approval, Belonging & Consequence — distinguish what's actually at stake from predicted consequences, threatened consequences and somebody else's disappointment.
  5. The Promise Beneath the Want — identify what you expect the outcome to make possible and separate the desired ingredient from the complete package.
  6. The Audience Test — remove titles, photographs, praise, prestige and witnesses and see what remains.
  7. The Alternatives Test — examine whether your current strategy is actually the only route to the underlying outcome.
  8. The Tuesday Test — investigate the lived experience of the future you're considering rather than merely its advertised meaning.
  9. The Finite-Life Test — map what pursuit and maintenance require in time, money, energy, attention, recovery, mobility, relationships, alternative opportunities, identity flexibility and tolerance for uncertainty.
  10. A Worked Example — follow one want all the way through the Bite.
  11. Findings & the Smallest Honest Experiment — separate what you know, infer and still don't fucking know, then identify a safe, affordable and reversible way to obtain better information before making a larger commitment.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DISCOVER YOUR “TRUE WANT.”

At the end, your current position can be:

KEEP — I understand the sources and still choose it.
MODIFY — I want part of the outcome, not the complete package.
TEST — I need direct experience before committing further.
PAUSE — I don't need to decide yet.
RELEASE — This no longer deserves continued investment.
FUCK IF I KNOW YET — I don't currently possess enough information to decide.

Because the purpose isn't to manufacture certainty.

It's to make you more accurately involved in deciding what receives your finite fucking life.

Sometimes the want is real and the selected delivery mechanism is the crock of bullshit.
